I literally cheered out loud. I needed this hope. Do not bend to Fascism. Better to die defying dictators than help them rule. Obviously, if you have the option, preserve yourself. But this is the prisoner’s dilemma on a massive scale.
“No, Make Me.”
My new motto. Stay angry.
Lina Khan should have done this as she had a few years left in her term. coward.
“Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at GoFuckYourselfNaziPricks@FU.gov”
Love it
FUCKING YES
Make them work. Say no. Don’t hope that someone else will stop it for you.
There’s a wonderful story from the Nixon years. This is heavily edited for clarity:
I said to Henry, “You remember what I said in my letter when I came here? Well, you have just called my bluff and my loyalties are to the American people and I’m refusing the assignment, I am leaving.”
And then Kissinger said something that I will never forget. He said, “Your views represent the cowardice of the Eastern Establishment.”
I just came up out of my chair swinging, I was so damn mad, and missed him. He ran behind his desk and said, “I am only kidding.”
I said, “Well, you don’t kid about something like this,” and just stormed out of the room.
Later:
Haig came flying out of Henry’s office. He said, “What the hell did you say to Henry? He is furious. He’s throwing books around the room and screaming and yelling.” So I told him that he said I was to be the staff coordinator and I wouldn’t do it.
At that point Haig then looked at me. He said, “You have had an order from your Commander-in-Chief and you can’t refuse.”
I looked at him and said, “Fuck you, Al, I just have.”
Edit: “Henry” is Henry Kissinger. Kissinger asked William Watts to violate the constitution, Watts said no, Kissinger insulted him for it, so he tried to punch Kissinger and cursed out the secretary of defense and quit to get a different job. Be like William Watts.
I have to admit I didn’t get the excerpts, maybe missing too much background knowledge about the people involved. But after reading the long version here: https://adst.org/2014/11/take-this-job-and-shove-it-mr-kissinger/ I have to say that was a boss ass move. A shame that William Watts missed Henry Kissinger there.
It’s the best. I used to think Oppenheimer telling Harry Truman in the oval office that he had blood on his hands, was the best, but this is my new favorite.
This is America. And in America, what do we do when our boss tells us to violate the constitution? That’s right: We punch him in the face.
People pushing back like this will be the only way to stop them. Sometimes the resistors will lose. Sometimes they’ll win. It matters either way.
This is why it’s bad that so much of the media is backing down. Give them a centimeter, and they’ll take a kilometer.
Even if you lose, it slows them down from steamrolling and allows others to fight back too
I didn’t know not backing down meant following the law keeping you in your job
Not obeying unlawful orders is indeed not backing down
Not a meme
I just checked your Account for 10 Seconds and can already see that you are just here to annoy People.
In the Shadow realm you go.
That’s about as much time as I’d expect someone writing a comment like this to put into it.
Perhaps not, but it does meet the community’s rules.
Shouldn’t the community’s name be the first rule on which the side panel just elaborates on? Subscribing to a meme community only to be bombarded with unfunny political hot takes feels completely unwarranted. This platform becomes intolerable when it’s nearly impossible to escape the constant politics. Not everyone wants to be angry 24/7.
Then unsubscribe.
Define a meme.
Is there any way to define a meme in a way that would include this post but not include every post ever made on lemmy?
Still a planet.
By Dawknin’s original definition (cultural) memes are ideas, behaviors, styles, or practices that spread within a culture by imitation (Greek mimema, meaning “imitated”) and carry symbolic meaning. Some examples would be the “Keep Calm And Carry On” posters during WW2, the concept of the “American Dream” or toasting with glasses.
However in this context we’re talking about internet memes which is not synonymous with cultural memes. An internet meme is a picture or video that is funny, ironic, or relateable. The picture above is neither a cultural nor internet meme.
This is, in fact, an idea, and the intent here is to have it spread by imitation. The more people imitate this, the better chance we have surviving these 4 years.
I find the picture relatable and inspiring.
I’m sorry if all you want to see here is chipmunk vagina, but this meme is more important than that.
Chipmunk vaginas aren’t memes either. What’s up with the bad faith? That’s completely uncalled for. Did I make a snide response to you? No I didn’t - I was being perfectly polite.
Chipmunk vagina.
Highly upvoted post from two day ago. You didn’t complain about that post, so I figured it must be the kind of thing you approve of. Or maybe you hadn’t seen it yet. Maybe I shouldn’t assume. My bad.
If you want to be the meme police, have some principles.
