I get called a tankie all the time, at this point the label gets applied to literally anyone to the left of Biden if you’re even vaguely anti-war, regardless of the work you do or the positions you hold. I’ve steered clear of 196 mostly because of the absolutely terrible and specifically anticommunist vibes.
I’m an anarchist and it’s been made clear to me that dogmatism is the enemy, engaging with any moment requires the ability to understand it and adapt.
The presidents inner circle is throwing roman salutes on live tv while the media (controlled by said inner circle) is censoring coverage. Maybe you shouldn’t be cutting off your entire left flank just because you disagree with them on nerd shit from 100 years ago, or on events unfolding on the other side of the planet.
I left tiktok right before the election because my feed was getting flooded with a bunch of videos from, and responses to, self-titled “socialists/anarchists/leftists” calling anyone who was arguing against voting for Kamala tankies and accusing people citing Marx as belonging to a religious cult (because quoting Marx is like quoting the bible or something? idk)
it was more like “here’s why trusting left wing sources and advocating for organizing outside of capitalist political parties is the same thing as worshiping the bible and believing in a coming rapture. i will not be applying this same logic to liberalism.”
many of them were queer people around my age. very frustrating.
