I think this is actually good news; it indicates that in the unfortunately likely event Canada has a conservative government next year, things might not get as bad for trans people as things are looking in the U.S.

    I would not use this as evidence that Poilievre would be any better for trans folks. Conservatives like Poilievre love to say they’re for small government minding their own business. It is always a lie that they toss aside as soon as they need to feed their fanbase.

    Focus hard on making sure this guy loses no matter what. He will be an enemy, even if he pretends to be a friend now.

    (It should go without saying, but I obviously don’t agree with Poilievre. I’m just noticing he seems to be taking a much less agressively anti-trans stance than other conservative party members.)

    This is what I keep trying to emphasize to the right-wingers I know. If you really do believe the government shouldn’t be in people’s business, that includes transitioning! Of course, they think the government is using taxpayer dollars to non-consensually do sex reassignment surgery on seven-year-olds 🙄 and the USAmerican Republican party thrives on hypocrisy, but still.
