After Trump’s win in the 2024 election, Stallone attended an event at Mar-a-Lago. During a speech, Stallone praised Trump as a “mythical character” and the “second George Washington”. He also compared him to his character Rocky Balboa.
On January 16, 2025, it was announced by president-elect Donald Trump that Stallone would serve in a new role as a Special Ambassador to Hollywood, sharing the role with fellow actors Jon Voight and Mel Gibson. Honestly, I was expecting Arnold Schwarzenegger to be Trump’s Hollywood friend, not Stallone (I know he’s a Republican too), Arnold was already a Republican politician. Nowadays, Arnold seems to be supporting the Democrats, which is very strange. Is this all a strange fight because Arnold took over The Apprentice after Trump left, and both Trump and Arnold have huge egos?

the second season of Tulsa King has fallen way off, despite the best efforts of the rest of the cast, because Sly as the centerpiece is so crazy elderly now, his speech patterns are nearly unintelligible, and he can’t move his body around anymore because he’s a shambling horror. having him play a smooth talking ladies man who can be his own enforcer tough guy is too surreal.

That’s very sad. I wish Stallone would just retire from acting, he can still write his scripts and direct if he wants to, but he’s too old for the roles he wants to do. He should have carried on doing roles like the one in Creed, where he was the trainer of a younger character.
Last Action Hero is amazing lmao, who doesn’t like it? Whole movie takes the piss out of 80s action movies and Arnold playing himself playing a movie character getting isekai’d is awesome.
I will always defend Last Action Hero, but people probably weren’t prepared for Arnold to make an 80s action movie spoof in 1993. Plus there were some baffling marketing moves like the video games not being allowed to have the main character use guns (even though Jack Slater used guns in the movie).
I also loved Last Action Hero. I wanted to see it when was a little kid, but the adults around me said it got bad reviews and was therefore bad. I saw it when it came out on cable or whatever and loved it. I would watch it right now.
even to this day, I still remember the way the Arnold plays his IRL self as this effusive, shameless promoter of Planet Hollywood, a recent acquisition of his at the time, while he is meant to be on the red carpet promoting the movie and it has Maria chastizing him later in private for being tacky. its so hilariously self aware.
I also liked how grim it portrayed real life compared to the movies, with Charles Dance’s antagonist learning “the bad guys can win” after blowing away some rando in an alley, as a test, and nobody wants to get involved.
I like flicks that have that kind of goofy vibe going on, but can take a dark turn and raise the stakes.
The one major criticism I have of Last Action Hero is that the tone is inconsistent, it clearly wants to be a kids’ movie with the child sidekick and the magic ticket premise, but at the same time most of the humor isn’t really aimed at kids. The reason the video games weren’t allowed to have guns was also because Arnold was trying to cultivate a more kid-friendly image, which seems like a weird pivot in hindsight. It’s not like most of Schwarzenegger’s movies were kid-friendly at all, although Terminator 2 toys and video games were very successful, so I can see how they could’ve seen this panning out.
I think Arnold is more ideologically aligned with the Democrats despite being registered as a Republican. Don’t think he likes Trump at all.

Mel Gibson might even make his own Gran Torino where he shouts all the slurs at teenagers.
They’ve really worn out their welcome. Just how many times can you make Leon the Professional, Man on Fire, and Taken? Like those were spread out over several decades and already going stale.
