Hello everyone,
I joined this community yesterday because I stumbled upon a comment somewhere saying that it was inactive. I tried to post a bit, the posts gained some traction, it seems that you guys already have enough people to get the ball rolling.
Unfortunately, I’m already busy with posting to content to a few others of my communities, so if I may, I suggest that a few of you step in to moderate, and take some actions such as update the sidebar with other relevant communities, reach out to those communities to get your own community listed, cross-post relevant content, organize weekly threads, post some content every day, etc.
I say from the sidebar that @hsl@wayfarershaven.eu is the other mod, but I know from personal experience that he’s already quite busy with moderating !asklemmy@lemmy.ml.
That’s all for me, I hope you guys have a good day/evening/whatever it is on your side of the world!
Edit: The only requirements to do the jobs are the following
- being willing to help the community grow
- check if your current app/website interface supports mods tools (some of them do, but I don’t know exactly which ones)
- timezones are quite flexible, the community is still small
- in terms of security, just don’t use a very easy to guess password, and make sure you have an email address configured to reset your password if you ever got compromised (but to fair that’s not that different from what you might already be doing)
Happy to help out if wanted. I have mod experience, I don’t go power crazy, and prefer to avoid drama. I also love fantasy, if that’s in any way relevant.
Seems great, feel free to DM/ping the current mod (see other comment in the thread)
I’m going to lock this thread because I don’t see the need to make any changes to the mods group right now. This is always something we can reopen but I’m not that thrilled about there being an open call for mods when we don’t actually need it.
Heh, it’s funny, I just volunteered to mod a books related community just a minute or so ago.
If there’s a need, I don’t mind helping with the moderation. Though, I am curious, you aren’t the admin of the instance or mod of this community, how can you select any mod?
I won’t, and that’s the thing, I’m kind of bringing up the issue, but I have indeed *no power here * (obvious reference inserted)
I just noted that before my posts, the newest ones from either from 2 days ago, or 4 days ago, and I thought that this community could probably use a bit more moderation/activity
You mentioned one mod in your post, maybe mention the other one too, to get their attention.
The other’s mod last post is from 3 years ago, but sure, let’s try! @ht_@lemmy.ml
Ah. If it was any other instance, it might have been possible to get admins to intervene, . But with lemmy.ml, devs are too busy with development these days. I doubt they have much time for these things.
It still think @hsl@wayfarershaven.eu will see this post at some point, he’s fairly active.
Yeah, though he seems to be moderating lots of communities.
Most of those communities are tiny, sleepy, or generally already take good care of themselves and just need an occasional caretaker. !asklemmy@lemmy.ml is the only one that takes significant time.
Actually it’s https://lemmy.ml/u/ht_
Requirements?
From my experience as a mod elsewhere, just the willingness to help. You don’t have to have your account on the instance or anything.
I myself won’t be able to help, probably. Only as a participant.
But I think it would help others if they’d know what are the preferred ways of reliably accessing the service (web&desktop I assume), their timezones, or if you need a link to a previous modding experience of an applicant. And if you’d teach them how it’s done, or if instance’s admins will teach them how not to compromise themselves there, for example.
I see, thank you for your input. Adding this right now.
I am here. This community doesn’t take a ton of my attention and I enjoy getting to hang out with you all. Really, you mostly need a mod to deal with things like duplicate posts, add an icon, etc. You were doing just fine before I got here. If you’d like to see something change, let’s discuss.
I tried pinging the previous mod when I stepped up to take care of the community but no answer.
You just became the mod about 15 or so days ago. I thought you were here from the olden days!
Well, as long as you are taking care of any reports, I think that is well and good. As for the need to contribute content, I don’t think you need to be a mod to post different things.
Do give a shout out, if you need any help.
That’s right! I came in as part of the first wave from Reddit, just after the API announcement. I’ve only been on Lemmy for a few months.
Sounds good. I’m happy to help if you want changes, but I’m also pretty happy with how things are going here.
