Do you not find it particularly odd that this pattern of company scientists lying repeatedly about how dangerous their product is, causing the US to delay action (think cigarettes, car safety, oil, etc.) is something that has repeated itself throughout history so many times here? This reads to me like someone is desperately looking for an excuse to offload blame from themselves. We were wrong, but it wasn’t our fault for ignoring all the scientists!

The system is designed to ignore science and listen to money. Understanding how money has more influence than science is important, but ultimately will solve no problems. They may create fake fixes, which patch old holes and open up new ones, but with money still speaking so loudly to congress and the US government as a whole, this problem will continue to exist and simply move on to the next product. How long will it be before we see a similar article about bitcoin or the environmental costs of running server farms to serve ads?
