European industry is in direct competition with Asia, and if input costs in Asia are lower because they’re able to get cheap energy from Russia, then it’s a direct competitive advantage over the EU. It’s probably more complicated than that. The key from US perspective is making sure they’re in control of the oil trade overall, and as long as oil is sold using the dollar they’re likely not too bothered.
Problem is, those European capitalists are happy enough to move the operations to Asia. Especially so if the costs are even lower now than before. Some will be pissed off but I think this is all showing that those ones don’t have much power. Indeed, ruining their businesses goes in favour of the ones who can move their factories.
