    Good article, but then:

Though the USSR had for decades been dominated by the counterrevolutionary Stalinist bureaucracy—which exterminated the Marxist opposition to their nationalist policies led by Leon Trotsky, renounced the program of world socialist revolution, and helped stabilize world capitalism after the defeat of the Nazis

    Western anti-soviet “communists”, yeah

This should not come as a surprise as it’s common knowledge that WSWS are Trotskyists. Every ML should be aware of this, just like we are aware when reading articles written by reactionary sources, which nonetheless can sometimes offer valuable analysis, albeit tainted by the respective author’s ideological biases.

Despite their claims, WSWS (that is, SEP) are beyond mere Trotskyists, they’re an infantile disorder. At least, that’s the situation on the ground here where they counter-protest pickets and May Day. Everyone is a ‘Stalinist’ or ‘Pseudo-left’ except them. I saw this reposted in a group and it’s uncanny:

I don’t know about their on the ground work but at least in their online publications they constantly exhibit an unhealthy obsession with labeling everything “Stalinist”.

Definitely, but I’m somewhat numb to that since Stalin is an obviously controversial figure in the West anyway, so I’m also surprised at how viciously they denounce anyone trying to apply even Trotsky’s own theories to a real world reality as pseudo-leftist, let alone any existing union organization. Textbook ultra-leftism (although oddly many of their sects engage in electoralism).

I remember the first time I came across an article of theirs, I was thinking it was decent and then out of nowhere, a hamfisted non-sequitur paragraph brings up Leon Trotsky who by the way did you know this was killed by Joeseph Joestarlin in 1940? Trotsky themself barely had any relevance, let alone their assassination.

It’s almost like a vocal tic, or perhaps a quota.

Claiming there are no victims of communism is brave, even for us. Trudeau gov, please at least add “Nazi Germany” to the list.
