He could also just be an attention-seeker claiming he’s the shooter. No shortage of those, instant popularity without doing much. In which case he might dispute certain details, but still claim overall credit.

He could have even faked the whole thing by intentionally carrying a 3d gun, then acting extremely suspicious in mcdonalds, getting the cops called and claiming to them that he’s the shooter. Altoona then forwarded that to the NYPD and they said “sure why not, this is the best tip we’ve gotten so far, let’s run with it.”

I had the same thought a little while ago, but didn’t really consider it seriously because it feels a lot like wishful thinking that someone would risk literally their entire life pretending to be the Adjuster for clout.

But if that is the case, I guess we can only hope evidence to the contrary comes out during the trial.

Anytime any killing takes place, there’s a not insignificant number of kooks taking credit for it. People want to feel important and noticed. In this case its even more likely since the majority of the US hates insurance companies and sympathizes with the killing, so anyone taking credit for it also gets positive attention.

Cops don’t publicize all the tips they get that they rejected, because it sows doubt. IMO the NYPD goofed and let the real killer slip away, so they were scrambling to find someone who fit the bill, that they could try in the media / court of public opinion.

I don’t understand the willingness of anyone to believe the NYPD, that someone who so meticulously planned this as to get away from one of the most surveilled areas in the country, isn’t going to ditch all the evidence immediately after, and stupidly bring a backpack full of fake ids and a 3d gun into public a week later. I’m not buying it.

Definitely, no matter how you put it the official story is incredibly suspect.

If the gun and other evidence was not planted, then it implies Luigi wanted to be arrested. To what end? I don’t know. But I too find it incredibly hard to believe the shooter just happened to lose half his brain cells while taking the bus out of NYC, but that’s exactly what the cops are asking us to believe.
