To be fair, Ukraine was organizing and demanding autonomy even during Provisional Government times and was trying to split off during October Revolution. The UkrSSR as the alternative project has weakened the nationalists position. It’s hard to deny, however, that the Ukrainian culture wouldn’t be nearly where it is without extensive literacy programs or industrialization that released a lot of productive forces to contribute to it. Now all this legacy is used to honor Nazi collaborators supported by CIA.
