Those songs infuriate me, Walmart does the same thing too. They always sound like some mediocre dude/dudette just banged them out in an afternoon over some knockoff karaoke backing track. As somebody who tries to appreciate when music has a lot of effort or technical skill or even deep emotion put into it, those songs are an affront to me in every way that matters.
Be so serious, Mariah Carey’s is far from the worst Christmas song in retail.

Better than the half-assed covers that Target plays year-round.
There are some truly terrible remixes on repeat in TJ Maxx/Marshall’s/Homegoods as well.

True, but in the US, the song has been overplayed so much that people tend to hate it more than much worse songs.
Same thing happened to Wham’s Last Christmas (which was a worse song to begin with) in Scandinavia, Germany, and probably elsewhere too.
