It is being ran as a council republic, with social democrats in charge (ew I know)

But everyone lives well, not exploiting any countries for it and am fairly peaceful. Only one war with norway really.

Ah neat, I had heard of it but never actually seen what it looked like. I assume its a civ game like crusader kings or hearts of iron yeah? Is it particularly good in comparison to these two?

It’s similar enough that it uses the same engine and is in the same genre (real time, grand strategy etc), but its focus is on political economy to the point where its a Marxism simulator, rather than a strategic military game (HoI) or an inbreeding game (Crusader Kings).

Uh… If you’ve never played a paradox grand strat before, prepare for a learning curve (Stellaris is probably the most accessible one).

or an inbreeding game (Crusader Kings).

Excuse me I managed to become my own grandfather without even any incest there.

Also played the Middle-Earth mod as Stalin, son of Balin and it was based.

Best part was when every single elf ruler except Cirdan came to me of their own will and became my vassals. Then Reunited Kingdom disunited again and the remanant too came to me. Unfortunately save got corrupted when i led something like 150000 dwarves, elves, humans and hobbits to Mordor (War of the Ring did happened but Mordor was not defeated in it so there was few follow ups).

I also had another game where i played Shire and stomped the thrones of Arda with the ruthless hairy feet of Sackville Baggins dynasty.

Though i needed to restart that Shire campaign few times because it automatically without option not to include Shire in Reunited Kingdom which have HARSH restrictions on vassal wars, until the one where Aragorn loses the WotR and RK don’t form. And ofc also use console twice to get rid of Bilbo and Frodo so Otho can inherit the Hobbiton (he’s unplayable at start).

Another fun start is Maglor, last surviving son of Feanor, but playing elves is generally a bit boring because they have insane restrictions on marriage and seduction (they forgot to include the T&T events though, so for example i managed to seduce both Galadriel and Legolas as Stalin, vindicating poor Gimli who drunk himself to death in young age).

Stellaris is definitely the most accessible one, because of how it starts you from a small baseline position rather than dropping you into a whole ongoing historical context.

I can tell because it’s the only one I can get into.

And then lost it after learning the meta smh why didn’t Stalin just make space marine divisions, CAS and airdrop paratroopers on victory points in the UK? He could also have used a civil war to purge out all the scary people if he wanted (just put your soldiers on a boat as the war fires off!)
I am a military genius. I give my troops new tanks and they don’t need training to use them that’s how it works also my political ideology is completely incomprehensible

I haven’t played grand strategy games outside of the physical boardgame known as risk.

I’d like to try though, I think it would activate some neurons

It’s similar to other PDX grand strategies but i would say the harder to grasp then others. Still 3 is massive improvement in accesibility over 2 so if you like other PDX games, give it a go.
