I know who this kind of shit appeals to. Mostly white European and USian conservatives. But what are they trying to achieve exactly? Are they hoping rich chuds emigrate to Russia to escape wokeism? Or psycho chuds enlist to die fighting wokeism against Ukrainian neo-nazis?
It’s also worth noting that liberal democracy’s portrayal as the sole legitimate form of governance has become modern-day marketing for colonialism, serving as a pretext for Western invasions and global atrocities masquerading as benevolent civilizing missions. Russia is very cynically using this to appeal to the Global South by saying that they’re defending the rights of different cultures to develop in their own way.
True. And personally- even as someone who’s trans- the honest truth is I fully agree with them in that regard. Every culture has its own hurdles, and pretty much every culture has also been affected negatively, intentionally, by the west either backing the most reactionary tendencies for their own purposes, or other times using maligned groups’ real issues as a wedge to creep their influence into (which isn’t to the benefit of anyone locally), or promoting their worldview that “progress equals westernization.”
The western “‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’” mentality is, as you noted, no different from their crusader/conquistador/“white man’s burden”/cultural Darwinism ideologies of the past. The entire world, if left to develop without marauding bands of western barbarians (whose imperialist culture is the actual culprit incompatible with progress or coexistence) would trend towards the right direction- in fact much of the world would have not been so heavily scarred with the ideological plagues like Wahhabism, white supremacism, evangelicalism and Christianity-influenced homophobia/transphobia/etc to begin with, that the west has weaponized and continues to weaponize to this day.
Exactly, values cannot be imposed externally by force. The attempt to impose values in this way simply breeds contempt from the rest of the world. In practice, western interventions have done incalculable harm to advancement of human rights around the world. West Asia is a great example of this where socially progressive socialist societies were crushed by western backed religious extremists.
