Genshin Impact, one of the world’s hottest mobile video games, has all the characteristics of a Japanese invention: giant robots; human-size swords; characters with huge eyes and spiky, rainbow-colored hair; and a puzzling fixation on women in maid outfits.

There’s just one catch: It’s Chinese.

I better see this exact criticism when the US makes media about other cultures. Like pretty much every Disney movie.

Also, are they aware that there is a lot of overlap between Chinese and Japanese cultures? It’s like wondering why Swedish and Danish media look similar. Or English and Scottish. Not to mention that robots, swords, and spiky technicolor hair are not traditional Japanese culture, it’s a modern thing and very much globalist.

[article] US newspaper: Popular computer game from China a “hostile invasion” and “theft”

I’m all for calling out the NYT’s shitty China takes, but, none of the words OP put in quotes in the title here are actually present in the linked archive of the article.

My apologies. I reposted this arcticle from Sino who gave this title without having fully read the article. Just the comments, and “the catch” and thought it was okay. In the 100+ reddit comments the same criticism was deep down in the comments. I have not been able to find what the OP said, so I’ll adjust the title accordingly.
