Zeb always kinda sucked and his “generic surly tough guy friend who’s a grouchy hardass normally but is secretly a gentle giant with a heart of gold” schtick was really tiring and Rex should’ve just been “the tough guy” member of the Rebels crew from the start, he’s a way more interesting and layered character
Rebels should’ve just been “The Hera & Kanan Show, also Sabine and Rex are there too and Chopper is a gremlin R2D2”
Ezra gets a pretty good development and arc eventually be he’s such a damn wiener kid initially and I also always thought Kanan and Hera should’ve been the protagonists
Also whenever Ashoka’s not on the screen, all the other characters should be looking around asking, “Where’s Ashoka?”
In conclusion, the galaxy far, far away is a land of contrasts
The guy that did the genocide (oh fuck why did we write it that way fuck fuck that’s too much we can’t rehabilitate that) uh was just kinda there and it wasn’t a big deal actually and he took the staff from a nice guard who fought fairly and gave it to him
Yep. Then in a later season they soft backpedal and he goes “Okay I wasn’t in charge in charge” and it’s really fucking stupid and they should’ve just not redeemed that character
And they never really say he didn’t authorize the distributors either, they just try to kinda get around it and he’s like “No no I’m not a genocidal monster I got this staff in a fair fight”
The “Zeb and Kallus work together when they’re both marooned” episode had some good characterization and growth for them and liked Kallus’s voice actor but he was a Space Nazi and I really wanted Zeb to just kill him or let him get eaten by the cave monsters when he had the chance lmao

He’s just Steve Blum. Guy voices the same character every time
Ezra gets a lot better over time though, kinda like Ashoka in early The Clone Wars starting out as an annoying sidekick for Anakin and eventually becoming one of the best characters in the series
Eh, you have a good point about it being consciously more of a kids’ show than TCW was by comparison and I still enjoyed the series for the most part but it’s strange to me that they wanted to have their cake and eat it too with Rebels. Funny purple alien guy and wacky robot get into hijinks, but also there’s stuff for the superfan grown ups like Maul’s arc, or the Darksaber and Mandalorian culture stuff with Sabine, or bringing Thrawn back into canon that I feel like is a bit at odds with intentionally being more kid friendly.
spoiler
also really don’t like the “world between worlds” stuff despite looking cool, I was convinced before Episode IX came out they were gonna use that for some time travel-y explanation for the Emperor’s return and I guess they still thought no explanation was better than that? I still have no clue what happened there tbh

Excuse me but Zeb had other character traits, like being Genocide Survivor and then subsequently forgiving the guy that did the genocide

did the genocide(oh fuck why did we write it that way fuck fuck that’s too much we can’t rehabilitate that) uh was just kinda there and it wasn’t a big deal actually and he took the staff from a nice guard who fought fairly and gave it to himIdk the wiki said he was the guy who authorized them to use those ion disruptors that melted people atom by atom

I do like him a lot in the English dub of The Big O, though.
Filoni was as always at war with himself over whether it should be a new show or him favoring his personal creations he loves
I understand that Ezra was there bc it’s a kids show and they think kids need a pov character to identify with
But idk, when I was a kid I always hated the kid characters in shows, I identified with the adults I dreamed of being, not the kids

Also live action Ezra is dreamy imho
No thank you, I appreciated how rebels was able to live in it’s own world without being a part of the main jedi storyline.
Also it was made for kids, and they much prefer big funny purple monster guy over grouchy soldier from some previous media they’ve never seen before.
