Conservative brain: “Prisoners aren’t human. I don’t see a problem here.”

They can dehumanize anything they want on a whim.

Note that Rowling is very well aware of the issue. She in facts condones, nay, applauds it

In the scene, a trans woman, Pippa, follows and tries to stab the protagonist, Cormoran Strike, before getting trapped in Strike’s office. After demanding Pippa’s ID, her trans status is revealed and her visible Adam’s apple is noted, while it’s noted that her hands were jammed in her pockets. Pippa tries several times to escape the office before Strike finally says, “‘If you go for that door one more time I’m calling the police and I’ll testify and be glad to watch you go down for attempted murder. And it won’t be fun for you Pippa,’ he added. ‘Not pre-op.’”

It’s especially obvious when they also scream about trans women being incarcerated in women’s prisons. Then the evil transes are going to rape and pillage the poor, defenseless women prisoners, apparently.

This doesn’t change anything but aren’t cis men also raped in men prisons?

IIRC there are massive differences in the probability and volume when it is a trans woman. Arguably this is due to the different secondary sex features between trans women and cis men. Long story short, if you a trans woman, then rape is almost certain, relentless, and possibly lethal.

It’s honestly fucking terrifying. If I’m unfortunate enough to run into a cop when they’re in the mood for a power trip, I could end up getting raped regularly, potentially to death.

If I ever have the slightest inclination I might get sent to prison I will do everything in my power to kill myself before that happens.

Ok, that’s frightening and makes sadly alot of sense. Thanks for the additional context!

I can only imagine, I have only had sex with one man and he is wonderful but we both have to have patience easing into it and it’s only been almost a year post op.

Why is prison rape of trans people the thing we care about not prison rape of everyone?

Thats fair. I have pointed out that if you include prison men get raped more, and people dont typically care.

Yeah if you have 10000 of one group of people and 10 of another, the bigger group is going to have more stuff going on.

      CW: rape

Because trans people are way more likely to be the victims of prison rape than cis people.

In its Policy Review and Development Guide: LGBTI Persons in Custodial Settings, the National Institute of Corrections reported that incarcerated transgender people are 13 times more likely than their cisgender peers to experience sexual assault, making up 59 percent of sexual assault cases in prisons and having the highest reports of multiple trauma.

Furthermore, trans people are more likely to be incarcerated than cis people. 16 percent of trans adults have been incarcerated, compared to 2.7 percent of cis adults.

      https://www.vera.org/news/gender-and-justice-in-america/transgender-people-at-higher-risk-for-justice-system-involvement

In any case, caring about trans victims of prison rape obviously does not disqualify you from caring about every other victim of prison rape.

We do. It’s just that trans women in prison are disproportionate rape targets.

And we want equality, so either rape more men, or rape more trans men in women prisons it’s only trying to highlight that the transphobia is not about protecting anyone, but discriminating.

The context being set by conservative media on a daily basis spewing the idea of a caricature transvestite posing a danger to women. In case you have missed that. It was well known that men pose a deadly danger to trans women long before the right decided to demagogue on this issue. See below for my quote of Rowling’s who actually cheers trans women being raped to death in male prisons. I hope you now see the relevance.

    Wait…

What opportunities are children being deprived of from men in dresses in single sex spaces?

TBF I crammed together two different angles to make the slogan fit into the meme. If we are to discuss this seriously, it breaks down to two angles:

      • They endanger women and children
      • They deprive woman and girls of athletic/professional opportunity
