Are locations determined by IP address? I’m guessing the 52 instances in rural Kansas are due to it being the default geographic center of the us. Is there something similar going on with the supposed 294 instances in Antarctica?
Ease of setting up VPSs can explain some part of this map.
Is there a way to filter for “Signups: yes”?
(Edit: On the map, I mean. I see that it can be done on the table view.)
I’d be interested to see something that breaks down what hosts (or at least AS’s) people are using. E.g. I assume a lot of the ones “located” in San Jose are behind CloudFlare, the ones in Ashburn are in AWS us-east-1, etc. Especially with proxy services or CDNs there is no way of knowing where the real “server” is actually “located”.
edit: Lol, it thinks my server language is “Estonian” and not open for signups… both of which are wrong.
