        Most people, even professional botanists, don’t know the whole phylogeny for each plant they are familiar with. I happened to know this one worked like Elepha* because it is a common group of plants. Knowing what is different between families/orders/whatever is something that makes identifing things you don’t know much easier though. Like how square stems are common in the mint family. Is that what you were asking?

          I was just wondering how people could be expected to remember such complicated stuff (because of how close those words look like one another) or if you just look it up in a book or on the Internet when you need it?

          You know kind of like nobody is required to know every command line tools options, you have man for that.

            Books and the internet for sure. You get tested on some in school, but I forget the ones I don’t use all the time. They also change pretty often with new studies and genetic info.
