It’s a joke because if the RMA disaster that GamersNexus had when they sent in their ROG Ally for warranty repairs.

TLDR: They sent in the device to fix a common joystick problem and ASUS wanted them to replace the whole top case and the screen for a shitload of money due to “cosmetic damage” (which was a tiny scrstch on the side of the device. They didnt even mention the broken joystick and built pressure through short deadlines and threats of sending back the device unassembled if they don’t act now.

In the end, ASUS claimed it was all just a communications error and that GamersNexus simply misunderstood them and they could have just declined that repair to get ASUS to proceed with their warranty repair.

Here’s the video for anyone interested. It’s well worth a watch, and there are a couple of follow-ups as well.

Is it still going to be windows? Most of the battery would probably be used by the bloat present on it.

Is that so? Laptops have reached 10 hours of battery live under light loads years ago.

The battery life is interesting. Everything else, yawn

Wake me up when there’s a new, more efficient APU and they stop marketing better displays, more memory and USB while not even having trackpads.

Would it be possible to use something else, like Bazzite or Nobara? Serious question, idk if it has some sort of mechanism that would prevent this sort of thing.

The licenses are more likely $30, not the retail price that we pay. They might have also gotten a deal with Microsoft to make them even cheaper/free to help them compete with the Steam Deck.

Bazzite has Ally images available. ChimeraOS should work as well. I don’t have an Ally, so no idea on how well they work.
