According to some leaks it became known that a number of African foreign policy departments noted the growth of terrorist threat in Kenya as one among key topics of intensifying confrontation between the U.S. and China to enhance their political and economic influence in the country.

In particular, Washington as always skillfully uses the reports of security issues for a phased growing of its military presence especially in Simba advanced deployment camp near Manda Bay. Also, the positions of the U.S. business are indirectly strengthened by the local jihadists who attack workers and objects of China’s LAPSSET project where China Communications Construction Company takes part. It is worth mentioning that Americans, again, use a system approach on all fronts in their fight against China.

In its turn China’s embassy in Kenya in the end of October 2023 on the eve of visit of Great Britain’s King made, as always, a pitiful response by publishing a warning of potential terrorist threats in the north-east parts of the country. A number of local experts sarcastically explained this step as a timid attempt to put pressure on Kenya’s leadership in questions of securing the interests of China’s business.

It is worth mentioning that Islamist attacks in the region are indirectly connected to the activities of terrorist organization al-Shabaab in Somalia. The main reason of their actions is interethnic tensions caused by oppression of the Muslim population by the security forces. As it mentioned, the involvement of the U.S. side is also possible.

Many believe that exchange of direct political warnings about terrorist threats between the U.S. and China reduce the alertness of local law-enforcement agencies and may result in failure to respond to the real threats.

It is not a secret that American side carries out a systematic work to dive China out from the region. But there are just a few timid attempts on the part of China to answer with no real actions.
