The cowards, this is how its being reported on all major news channels. Lie after lie.

In a statement to ABC News, the Owasso Police Department said it suspected the cause of Benedict’s death, but refrained from saying anything pending the results of the medical examiner’s office.

The students of Oklahoma are holding walkouts to honor Nex. It would be appreciated if you joined any nearby vigil or march honoring them, in solidarity.

Remember that this wasn’t some passive death, transphobes actively and knowingly agitated harm against them. This was a murder, not a suicide. They, an indigenous trans minor, died in the hospital after being assaulted in the bathroom by 6 transphobes.

Last week, a family buried their nonbinary child, Nex Benedict, who died after being brutally beaten in the girls’ bathroom at their high school in Oklahoma. According to their mother, 16-year-old Benedict had been bullied relentlessly for a year leading up to the incident, in which a group of peers ganged up on them and a trans student. It’s a horrific case and one that is inseparable from its context amid a climate of seemingly unceasing anti-LGBT demonization in the state and the nation.

From what I remember when this was a fresher story, Nex died shortly after being sent away from a hospital they were at after sustaining a head injury. The spontaneous death from an untreated brain bleed hours later is now being ruled a suicide?

they sustained a head injury because a bunch of transphobes (6 to be exact) beat them until they lost consciousness. this was literally murder and they are ruling it a suicide.

I think it was the next morning. Unless there is some other indication I would have to say it was due to suicide like they claim.

Ah, yes, they just chose to get a head injury from being beat up to the point of losing consciousness and by the way happened to die the next morning for completely unrelated reasons…

Do you have any idea the actual cause of death? I dont, and if they say suicide, and they have waited this long to confirm, then I would say it was suicide unless you have some compelling information to say its not.

if they say suicide […] then I would say it was suicide unless you have some compelling information to say its not

Counterargument: if they say suicide then I would say it was most definitely not suicide unless you have some compelling information to say it is.

In cases like this always assume they are lying and reality is the exact opposite of what they claim.

And I think they do have compelling evidence to make the claim or it would be quickly debunked by the family. I am skeptical of authority and would absolutely jump on board on the government is lying if you actually had some solid information about them actually lying.

I think your best argument is that the suicide was the result of how they were treated.

Yes, we do. The day following the sustainment of head injuries which resulted in the acute loss of consciousness (that is, the day after Nex sustained a severe brain injury) Nex was with their mother preparing to travel for an appointment when their eyes rolled back in their head, they collapsed and were struggling to breathe.

The next day, Benedict called 911 requesting medics for Nex, whose eyes were rolling back and was struggling to breathe. Benedict described how Nex had been dealing with a headache after the fight at the school.

I am aware of this, but they said there was indications of suicide but they didnt want to confirm it until they were sure. How do you know there wasnt a bottle of pills taken that morning?

Prozac and Benadryl, the two drugs that supposedly killed Nex, interact at high doses, in the form of Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin Syndrome kills you relatively slowly, and has a fatality rate of about 1-2%. It’s very easy to treat, and the symptoms Nex had, did not match those of serotonin syndrome.

                Serotonin Syndrome symptoms from Mayoclinic:

Compare that to Nex’s symptoms, from Vox:

“The assault was so violent that Benedict says he ‘blacked out’…Benedict texted a relative later. '[I] had to go to the ER… if I’m still dizzy and nauseous in the morning I might have a concussion.'The next morning, Sue Benedict placed a call to 911, stating that Benedict had fallen unconscious and appeared to be ‘posturing,’ exhibiting involuntary motions that can indicate brain trauma. Benedict returned to the hospital but was pronounced dead soon after arrival.”

Additionally worth noting, the cause of death which was released made no determination on the levels of the two drugs that were in Nex’s system, nor made any reference to Serotonin Syndrome, only a “Toxic interaction.” Both of which feel like strange things to leave out, if this was the cause of death.

I remain Pretty skeptical, all things considered

Thats fine, but the people with all of the information are not us, and so I am going to believe the people with the data unless there is a smoking gun.

So if Alice shoots Bob, and Bob survives the initial shooting only to die later from, say, blood loss or additional shock due to the very same bullet wound, Bob committed suicide and Alice didn’t do anything wrong?

Why do you assume Nex died from the injuries from the assault?
