Not exactly surprising, and more a question of when rather than if.

But then what? Are new unpaid moderators lined up around the block to get the position? Knowing that they’re just the admins puppets and can be replace anytime they displease their corporate overlords. While I’m sure there are in fact eager moderators lined up, how many of those are just power hungry sycophants, or how many loose interest after a week?

Reddit has always had the tools and motivations to do things like this.
