Tried mastodon some time ago, and it did not stick with me, so I want to try again - since now the fediverse concept is somewhat more clear to me.

So my question is: is there a better server for specifically artist to join or does it matter? Any recommendations?

    https://mastodon.art is fantastic. I’m on the .social instance, but use it to find artists to follow.

    I never really followed anybody on Twitter, but the Mastodon art community is incredible. Some artists I followed there are Galmesh Rosewood, Misnina, and Milady de Winter.

      mastodon.art is quite controversial, as it probably has the longest instance blocklist far and wide: https://fba.ryona.agency/?reverse=mastodon.art

      Of course, there is a lot to moderate, but there are definitely many among them that are anything but known for tolerating or spreading problematic content.

    I’d say mastodon.art or socel.net

    mastodon.art has broader categories of art including digital art, traditional art, sculpture, photography, songwriting, poetry, creative writing etc

    socel.net is for animators, comic artists, etc and seems to attract illustrators.
