Lemmy doesn’t seem to allow uploading them natively, and it’s hard to create a Mustangs Crashing or Idiots in Cars channel without an easy way to attach video.
The best thing I can think of is probably Pixelfed or even a dedicated Masto profile or something, but neither is really ideal. I’d love to see a federated Imgur emerge- and I wouldn’t be fully surprised if one eventually does.
Thanks. I never tried Pixelfed, but from what I could get from their homepage, they don’t support mp4.
I’m not on Mastodon, but have some friends who are. I’ll ask them about it.
I can say they do support MP4! The server owner needs to have it enabled but I’d wager most do :)
Sadly, mine doesn’t, unless it’s changed since I last talked to my admin.🙁
Not a huge deal though.
Damn that sucks :( I’m so sorry
No big deal. I just opened a Mastodon account, so hopefully that can serve as a makeshift imgur.
@Casuallynoted @linuxFan Hello from mas.to (mastodon instance), btw
(federation is so cool)
👋 Hi. I’m https://cheeseburger.social/@linuxFan on mastodon. Not much content there yet.
PeerTube would probably be good for hosting mp4s, but you’d basically have to run your own instance. The last time I looked, there weren’t any open PeerTube instances that people could just sign up for and use. (Which makes sense, since video hosting is pretty resource-intensive and most hobbyists couldn’t afford to run a general-purpose instance.)
That’s a great question. I don’t know either, but I’ve only seen gifs (not actual videos)
