Um, the indictments are felony charges. What would the alternative be, furrowed brows?

Aileen Cannon is the judge assigned to the case. Yes, that judge that previously did everything in her power to help Trump. IANAL, so how will this play out? Jack Smith seems to be holding his cards closely but this one has to throw a wrench in his plans.

She will be forced to recuse. She was beach slapped for what she did before. That’s not a small deal. The circuit court was very sharp in their criticism of her. If she wasn’t playing favorites on the petty shit, she could have saved trump. She played herself.

The circuit court will reassign the case if she doesn’t voluntarily recuse. The standard for recusal in the 11th circuit is “will this judge’s prior actions undermine public confidence in the case.” There is already proof that that standard was met with upper courts coming down on her so firmly in their ruling. It seems doubtful that she will still be assigned this case when it goes to trial.

It seems to have been randomly assigned to Cannon and the DOJ is going to move to get the case reassigned. But IANAL either

No. United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida was embarrassed by her. She was told she had no jurisdiction, they reversed her order, Cannon then dismissed Trump’s lawsuit per instructions from the Eleventh Circuit. The court has a lot of interest in preserving its integrity. And the case will be reassigned. I’d be surprised if this conversation isn’t already handled.

Because there’s an automated system that doesn’t pay attention to these details.

I do not believe for a microsecond that she was actually randomly assigned to this case. That is extremely improbable. Strings were obviously pulled by human hands.

The special prosecutor isn’t screwing around.

I’m sure his team did a thorough risk analysis and decided the risk of drawing Cannon outweighed the risk of Trumps legal team successfully challenging the venue if it was in DC.

Bet you they even had this outcome fully planned for.
