I love infinity! Easy to use and it doesn’t push notifications all day to you check reddit all the time
Infinity is the only reason I had gone back to reddit. Not being able to use it is what initially drove me to the fediverse
Me too! And I like the decentralization thing
Oh yeah I came for the “reddit alternative” and stayed for the decentralization
Infinity is great. Really hoping the dev refractors it for Lemmy.

I used infinity.
but i think almost anyone here uses/used an open source client no? Thats like a predestined path
I love the infinity client and I already miss the “swipe to upvote”-feature on jerboa
It’s more likely, probably. On Reddit it really seems to be a forgotten child aside of the fossdroid people.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when some subreddits announced their participation in the blackout with a picture including the infinity for reddit (and boost) icon(s).
I tried Infinity but it simply wasn’t comfortable for me so I went back to Boost. I generally prefer FOSS but in this case I had to go with what worked best for me.
I thought that infinity was FOSS haha :(. It was really good, so fast, so clear, not compared to web view or the awful app.
Infinity is FOSS, Boost isn’t.
ok, got it.
Infinity is amazing
Really hoping that Infinity comes to Lemmy, I love the app

I am in love with Boost and have used it religiously. Now I’m on Jerboa trying to get this Lemmy stuff to work, but I’m hopeful.
It would be awesome if Boost could be re-written to work with Lemmy, but I have doubts that would happen. This is probably a good time for new people to have their work shine though, I’m excited to see new apps made for Lemmy.
The UIs are similar to some extent so it might not be a bad idea to have the boost dev work on Jerboa
I do not even know what Boost is. The reason I am on Lemmy is due to it being federated
Infinity is the best FOSS app I’ve used for Reddit and supported Relay through purchasing Pro. As a UI/UX Designer, I admire everything these devs contributed for their 3rd party apps to user experience compared to Reddit themselves.
Infinity’s one of the most attractive Reddit UIs around. I’ve been using it for a while, I didn’t realize it was a FOSS app. Great to learn though!
I just stumbled it upon FDroid’s homepage by accident. I tried it, then I never used my Relay ever again lol. But I missed scrolling reddit by one hand using Relay, very convenient feature! I though I was going to miss r/fossdroid, but there’s and open source instance here on lemmy also, c/opensource if you’re interested.
Infinity has been my go-to. Spending much less time on it though.
God I will miss infinity, my account was banned for bogus reasons so the ability to sub to subs without being logged in was amazing, also love the interface

I use Infinity. It’s a bit different from what I used before, so I had to learn a few things, but now I like it. If Reddit gets rid of third party apps, or even old reddit, I don’t know if I’m going to keep using it.

There’s the Idea of making a lemmy API that’s Reddit compatible. Meaning all Reddit client apps could migrate to lemmy with minimal effort.

Where normally, these two services differ drastically. Usually, Infinity (or any other Reddit client), would talk to the Reddit API. Converting them to talk to the Lemmy API is like converting them to speak a whole other language. There are ideas and proof-of-concept projects to translate between the two.
The software would sit in between a Reddit client and a Lemmy instance. Receiving Reddit “language” from the client, translating to Lemmy “language” on the other side, and doing the reverse with the response it receives from the Lemmy instance.
If such a piece of software existed, a Reddit client could be converted simply by saying: “Instead of talking to the Reddit API, talk to this server”. The client would still “speak” the Reddit “language” with the translator, but interact with Lemmy at the other end.
It would take the time pressure off of Reddit third-party client developers, giving them time to properly convert their applications to their new preferred platform. It is a large task though, so I’m not sure if it’ll be usable by the time Reddit disables free API access.
Would be very nice to have, as the bar set for UI and UX design by most third-party Reddit applications is very high (specifically shout out to Apollo and Infinity). Apps like Jerboa or Mlem couldn’t possibly reach that level of quality within a month.
more like having a second lemmy API that behaves the same way as reddit’s
No, an API that has the same calls as Reddit, but lemmy as a backend.
They should ask Lemmy devs for advice before making clients for Lemmy
No. Just use a different API endpoint.
I use infinity. Was a slider user (and loved it) but isn’t slide dead?
It hasn’t been developed for a year but it works just fine for most people.
Just means its ripe for a fork and switching to lemmy
Edit: tempted to try, now…
Slide for Lemmy would be awesome
did the temptation win? ;-)
if you start a fork, I guess currently there are quite some people to contribute/join the effort
I’m holding myself back a bit, because daily work doesn’t leave me with much free time at the moment - with not much change in the near future…
Yo come to !starwarsmemes@lemmy.world it’s lonely there
Didn’t even notice that slide is ded. Still my favorite.
Yeah I’m still a daily user
