the specs for it is a windows 8.0 eara intel Pentium cpu 3.9 gigs of ram , and windoes takes ~50% of ram . if so what desktop/tiling window manager should i emerge

    While it is not impossible to setup Gentoo Linux on a machine like that, I do not know whether it is worth the hassle. I would just go for Linux Mint or so (would be light enough, esp. their flavour with XFCE).

    Gentoo is designed for this kind of PC Also, if you habe another PC to run distcc on, it might maybe even to usable

    only if you have a lot of time on your hands. you can try funtoo (I haven’t tried) or arch. why do you want to install gentoo on that? I’ve used it on my workstations.
