Chrome, at least in its experimental Canary version on Android (and only for users in the U.S.) […] will soon see a “Follow” feature for sites that support RSS and the browser’s New Tab page will get what is essentially a (very) basic RSS reader — I guess you could almost call it a “Google Reader.”
It was never dead but that doesn’t mean that it can be more alive. I love RSS, it is my primary source of news but it isn’t universally supported. Google can be a great motivator and I’m glad that it will drive more people to fix up their RSS feeds.
That doesn’t mean that Google is the lord and saviour of RSS (looking at you awful YouTube feeds) but we can still appreciate anything that they do to help.
My only real concern is that the placement on the New Tab Page will encourage more summary RSS feeds instead of full-text feeds.
