Thanks for making this guide. I bought a new phone that’s arriving in the mail soon and I’ll be following the steps you laid out. I have a question.
Are you aware of the simple mobile tools suite and, if so, how do they compare to the other FOSS/privacy respecting app alternatives? The apps all have GPL-3.0 licenses and the readmes say they have no ads, use minimal permissions, and don’t connect to the internet: this makes them seem trustworthy, but digital privacy is something I’m still new to, so I’m not sure how they stack up against alternatives.
Also, more of an add on to what you said than a question: there’s a newpipe fork that includes sponsorblock in the izzy app repo you included in the guide.
Simple Tools are okay but I just use better alternatives instead. QuickPic modded by XDA devs is much faster even though it is not FOSS, and I just use the stock Huawei dialler. You can use either Simple Dialer or Koler, or stock dialler if you are comfortable with its internet access off. Other Simple apps are unneeded for me. They are an issue when the builtin apps are garbage, or for example stock/Pixel Android is even worse.
NewPipe is the main app that updates first, and forks always update with a little delay. This is why I mention NewPipe. If one knows about the sponsorblock fork, they are already ahead of the curve and can even use AnimePipe fork.
Thanks for getting back to me. By the way, the android debloater project you mentioned is no longer maintained because it’s being written in rust.
There is no difference, Rust one just has a GUI whereas the UAD originally has had a command line input option. I worked a little with UAD author initially when he was making the tool.
