In theory, I can support the right to euthanasia. But the way its being peddled by Canada and Baltic countries as a magic solution is fucking disgusting.
It’s basically “you’re getting too expensive so you can just eat shit and die.”
The only way I could possibly support it is with very, extremely, meticulous consent, after completely ruling out every single avenue of treatment. If you’re not of sound mind already, you cannot even legally consent to any sexual activity so how is consenting to literally dying on the table? Yet that seems to be the people they’re targeting.
There are people out there who are suffering from such immense pain or have such a lack of dignity in their end stage of life that they’d rather go out on their own terms. The conversation is worth having. But currently, yes, assisted suicide in most cases is very much a bandaid solution as long a capitalism is what drives people to develop extreme disease, dementia, mental illness etc.
