For me I can begrudgingly handle the implication if it is a part of a characters motivation, many movies do it and while I do find it a bit cliche and almost tropey “oh male protagonist’s female companion or family is raped, now he’s mad” it’s not anywhere near as aggregious to me as showing a full scene especially in graphic detail.
I think a lot of male writers don’t see the issue because historically and culturally rape is seen as the ultimate bad to women and not men in the same way (again it’s sexism as men can be raped too) and therefore don’t realise why for female watchers/consumers it’s so abhorrent and traumatising, because it was made essentially mainstream and something to be accepted by female watchers in their eyes.
However if women started making anime or movies that featured a lot of male rape I bet you’d see a sharp condemnation of the media by men as the concept and plot device now swivels to focus on them.
It plays into why so many chuds defended Redo, the main character who I described in that comment is sexually assaulted (they never said rape in the summary I read) by several characters including the girl he then revenge rapes and tortures in the first episode.
For a lot of people watching they vehemently defended Redo saying that what the main character does to the girl in the first episode is justified because of the sexual assault the protagonist suffered. Apart from it been quite clear the protagonist goes above and beyond in his revenge compared to what happened to him, I think for a lot of male consumers and defenders of redo they genuinely felt a similar (but i’d argue lesser due to what ive mentioned above and context) primal disgust and uncomfortable feeling hearing about what happened to the male protagonist and therefore reacted and defended the animes garbage rape fetishisation.
It’s wrong and an eye for an eye is never acceptable regarding sexual assault, rape etc but I find it interesting that when the dynamic was shifted ever so slightly, men got a taste of what women have had to suffer for years through media and men’s reaction was so loud compared to the societally expected “it’s for the plot, shut up and cope” tolerance of the trope placed on women regarding the same narrative beat and I think that shows that the plot/trope isn’t fun or good at all.
I liked berserk but it was grimdark to a point that made me sometimes uncomfortable that I think it didn’t need to be but it’s an old manga so while I don’t think that justifies it, I not going to view or judge it in the same light as redo.

There are too many chuds and incels/femcels out there. Acceptance is one hell of a thing, and closeted celibacy really allows to give shape to loser personalities. I know this so deeply because once upon a time I had incel like behaviour, and it was very, very horrible. I took my time and developed myself because I knew how wrong it was for everyone and myself.
I’m sorry if I’ve triggered something for you comrade 🫂
I know a lot of people who strayed close to that drop off point and I know I had moments of hopelessness and loneliness that warped my perception of others.
The thing is you did take the time, you grew, learnt and changed. That takes immense strength of character and you should be very proud of that 👏
Its alright, I have plenty scars, and it was not on you. I have battled a lot of depression and suicidal tendencies.
Even now I am fighting a demon, struggling with it. Skillet, Disturbed, Thousand Foot Krutch, Three Days Grace, Imagine Dragons and Five Finger Death Punch are my jam.
Berserk has really spoken to me so far because of Guts’ trauma… he and Casca mirror each other in that way, I feel, and it allows for exploration of themes dealing with trauma very seriously rather than merely as a plot motivater for Guts. He’s a big, strong, angry man but he also allows himself to cry and to remember. I agree that it goes too far sometimes, I just love Berserk and think it’s incredible how a manga from that period actually had the nerve to tackle CSA against a male. As a genderfucked AMAB person, in part caused by the abuse I endured as a child, it is absolutely liberating to see this embodiment of manliness struggle in a similar way and attempt to overcome the toxic aspects of his masculinity. His fight for revenge is not only for Casca, but for the reflection of himself.
The anime removing a lot of that aspect of Guts bothered me, although I still enjoy it. I have to go into it with the meta-context of Guts having undergone the same trauma as he does in the manga to get full appreciation out of it, though.
I might have to give the manga another look as I adore when media pushes back against toxic masculinity and expectations placed on guys regarding stoicism etc 💪
Apparently the assistants are continuing it (5 chapters so far) after Miura’s death, with Mori Kouji as the writer. He’s made some good stuff, some decent stuff, and one piece of garbage, so hopefully it’ll be a decent conclusion
Jokes aside Mr. Fromsoft himself did say Beserk was his main inspiration for the games. They even put a Gut’s sword in Elden Ring as a overt reference to the fact the manga inspired the games art direction, lore… basically everything.

I cannot write more, this is depressing.

Kill demons with Metal
Metal and rock. I also listen to deadmau5, the only correct way to do EDM.
🫂 mood I have the same, if you ever need to reach out for a chat or to vent you can comrade👍
Ooo ever heard Raunchy? They have a song called “A Heavy Burden” that fucking slaps. Found it on an old CounterStrike Source frag montage.
I will try out that song. CS 1.6 and Source veterans will always be appreciated.
💪

And then we will get another fromsoftware game that copies all the source material lmao.
I would actually like to play a Dark Souls-ish Berserk game
There’s already one, it’s just called Dark Souls/Elden Ring 🤣
😑
