Some distributions use less resources than others. For example, I have a 32-bit Intel atom laptop with 2 gigs of ram that is completely usable after installing Antix Linux (a proudly antifascist Linux distro). Uses about 90 mb or RAM when idle.
Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition uses less RAM than win 10 on my personal laptop. I wouldn’t call it “smoother” but it leaves more resources available for other tasks I want to run. After all, Linux isn’t magic.
Linux Mint is probably what you’re looking for. My personal recommendation is to create a bootable Linux Mint USB following the instructions on their site, check that everything works during the live session and just install it.
If your first instinct when something doesn’t work on your computer is looking it up online, you’ll be fine.
At the end of day, if you’re like me and mostly want your computer out of the way it’s not a life-changing decision.

Yeah, I just want speed and more processing power as I feel that Windows 11 takes up too much of it as it is.
