Even if it’s 2 continents, people can’t call America to a country from one of those 2 continents, because they’ll exclude countries from Canada to Panama out of the equation (except for, obviously, United States), like if they don’t even exist or if they’re from another continent.
Yep that’s North and Central America. I am talking about South America too. The entire continent south of Panama. Why would ‘American’ mean North American any more than just meaning from one country?

Not really, is one but can be subdivided in two subcontinents.
