There was a book I read that explored the idea of such technology being weaponized against revolutionaries. The author was a total baby leftist but seemed to have impressive knowledge on nascent technologies and the way they can be twisted against us. More than a little scary lol.

IMO people thinking MKULTRA was a failure–sadistic, but a failure–are…uhh…well I guess let’s hope they’re right. But I have some (possibly schizophrenic, who’s to say for sure) experiences that suggest otherwise.

The co-option of the hippie movement is IMO still relevant today with new age spirituality, witchcraft, casual drug culture–hell, it basically became a blueprint to immediately subsume every nascent counter culture, arriving at today where there are dozens to choose from, they’re all homogenous and superficial and fit snugly within the confines of capitalism.

        Thank you for the link.

Yeah so found the book, it’s called Attack Surface by Cory Doctorow, also I read his book Radicalized. Both near-future fiction. Some things included:

        spoiler

___ Crazy methods of surveillance, using self-driving cars and facial recognition to kill activists during a “glitch,” smart appliances failing to start and starving people who don’t buy the “right” brand of foods, etc. The birth and subsequent culling of hacktivism. I’m definitely forgetting a couple.

The books are about as based as you will find in a mainstream bookstore. Anti capitalist, anti communist, you know the type.
