      Is there any way we can help? Reading recommendations or anything like that? I am awkward as fuck irl too but I promise things are easier when you’re with comrades.

      Lurking and learning is fine too of course!

      @frippa@lemmy.ml you too comrade

        I’m definitely still in the lurking and learning phase lol. I’ve tried to read Marx and Lenin but my brain has a hard time reading older texts, even if it’s not that hard. It feels like reading Shakespeare. I was going to check out Parenti next. I still feel that I have a pretty decent idea on communism in a realistic and non-utopian framework.

        I deeply appreciate the help, comrade. All you can do is continue the great work on this sub and as I learn more, I’ll come out of my shell. I love this community <3

          I know what you mean about some of the classic works. Marx’s Capital is dense af for the most part. It’s best to do that stuff with a reading group if possible, and maybe look up some youtube videos to explain the basics of it. Hakim has a short series on Wage Labour and Capital, for example

          Parenti is a great choice though! Blackshirts and Reds is a brilliant introductory book. It’s quite short, largely avoids jargon, and is very compellingly written. I’d 100% recommend it.

          Support our boy Parenti in his retirement by buying a copy if you can, but if you’re hard up for cash, here’s a free pdf version. He definitely seems like the kind of guy that wouldn’t mind his works getting shared around for free.
