I view .world fairly negatively, but I’m a bit conflicted about it.

The overall ethos is the type of milquetoast liberal (as in capitalist) tech bro that I associated with some of the more annoying and smug parts of Reddit. The politics comm has all the familiar trappings of /r/politics and there is a fair amount of “red scare” type posting, especially if China is involved. The smear campaigns against the .ml and hexbear instances also get under my skin.

It’s the instance I would first suspect of becoming a “Nazi bar” in the long run because of their prominence and typical faux “tolerance” (though sh.it.just.works might be worse). Some here would probably argue it already is one. Same as what happened to Reddit over time. Subs like KiA, the Donald, and the general conservative sub just wouldn’t have been as big in early Reddit, even as Libertarian as it was.

It also is arguably hostile to Lemmy as a platform. If you subscribe to their Fediverse comm, then you’ll see a post at least once a month that exists to harshly criticize the Lemmy developers and the platform as a whole while providing space for every reactionary developer to advertise their competing platform. I find that harmful to Lemmy, which is the most successful Reddit clone to be created by far.

However, it’s a big instance, and as much as I like my platforms being full of leftists, I don’t mind interacting with more uh everyday people. There are a lot of comms that probably would never exist here. Plus they just bring a lot of activity to the platform as a whole and they aren’t all bad.

Pretty much why I made my .ml account my default. I can interact with hexbear, .ml, lemmygrad, .world and the others. Sometimes that’s for the worst, but it’s mostly been a good experience.

But yeah I’d take hexbear every day over .world if I had to choose. Even with the terminally online struggle sessions.

If anything is too bad, it’s .world being so prominent.

Half this comm’s activity is spreading FUD about the platform and being a gathering place for all the people developing their alternatives to huddle and advertise those.

Why would they learn anything? The entire .world instance, Dem Reddit/Twitter, etc. does nothing but run defense for them, tell everyone they need to vote for them no matter what, and browbeat everyone who engages in criticism of the party during every election season, local and national.

What does that possibly have to do with Biden choosing to abuse his clemency powers to spare his failson from the consequences of his actions?

This isn’t an act of progressive or socialist will. This is just another example of a two tiered justice system in this country but also fuel for the fascists. I don’t see a reason to celebrate this unless you’re a Biden.

Democrats, especially the hardcore blue MAGA types, will never duck the “elitist” critiques.

Why do you guys pretend to understand the electoral college in one breath and in the other assume every critic of the Democratic party lives in NC, GA, PA, MI, etc.?

My vote would have literally been more wasted voting for Kamala in a deep red state. At least a third party vote could get your party to notice something.

Also, the Democrats are one of the two most powerful capitalist political organizations in the world. They fight and organize for capital, not the working class and definitely not the working class outside the US.

They aren’t perfect, and as stated elsewhere they are in a period of Dengist based socialism. However, they are extremely successful, very popular within their country from all sources that could be called evidence (especially compared to the US government), and do far less to acquiesce to the billionaires compared to West, seemingly (charging and sentencing billionaires for corruption, cracking down on financiers, etc). I think another user had a good point too about looking at the amount they have per capital.

They are the most successful nation practicing a form of socialism in the modern world and offering an alternative to liberal capitalism.

Isn’t an election the definition of a zero sum game? People are either voting for you, your opponents, or not at all.

This was a referendum on neoliberal business as usual and they lost, hard.

You would have thought people in this country would have learned that in 2016 when Trump ran against NAFTA and with a populist message that, yes, used immigrants as a scapegoat.

But the neoliberal elite of the party continue to show nothing but disdain for populism, evidenced by how they treated Bernie and choosing candidates who literally run on nothing “fundamentally” changing.

Seeing that fact and choosing not looking inward at the party but instead chastising the laymen is exactly why Democrats lose. OP’s post is endemic of the problem.
