  • This specific example is one thing that self hosting is arguably better for. I’ve made a few shitposting memes and the like that are five seconds long and uploaded unlisted just to share with friends that get immediately flagged and banned for DMCA that I’ve taken to just self hosting them. They’re getting like three views anyway because the world was never meant to see them.

People sharing videos with friends and family seems like a problem that’s already solved, if you really don’t want to use YouTube. Big channels that get millions of views are the real issue.

  • We know this model has been a key part of the Affinity offering and we are committed to continue to offer perpetual licenses in the future.

If we do offer a subscription, it will only ever be as an option alongside the perpetual model, for those who prefer it.

Seems to be the key take away based on comments from similar posts. The wording is a bit more explicit here.

I’m always weary of the never-ending march towards everything monopolizing into like three companies, but it seems like this might not be so bad, at least for the near future.

Feliz Navidad is the only Christmas song that I don’t utterly despise. Perhaps because none of the places I worked at that played music when I was younger ever had it on the rotation, I can appreciate that it’s super catchy and fun.

All other Christmas music makes a holly jolly boy a sour Scrooge.

  • It’s had some marketing for a while now, but I guess it’s mostly been targeted at final fantasy fans that keep up with the news. The general marketing has definitely started going hard in the last month or so leading up to release, which looks like a good thing for sales. Got a lot of eyes on it right at release time.

I’ve been excited personally for a while now, I was hyped up enough last year to preorder what I’ve been affectionately calling the “waste of money” edition as soon as preorders went live. And with the demo, I’m not regretting that decision.
