Power? Control? Indoctrination and lack of critical thinking skills to escape it? Some kind of latent fear where they think if they don’t come out on top someone will, treating life as a zero sum game? There’s lots of potential reasons for people to act this way but it probably depends on the individual. I’m not comfortable painting with a super wide brush here because its dehumanizing, and these people are human. Reprehensible? Perhaps, but still human.
We can wax philosophic about why anyone does the things they do, but in the end it doesn’t matter why they do what they do, it matters what they do and what actions we can take to try and improve our own lives and the lives of the people we care about.
The right wing is afraid of a totalitarian dystopia?
Lol, no they’re not. They salivate at the thought of having a totalitarian dystopia where they’re on top. This is just more projection shit on their part. If anything, 15 minute cities deradicalize people by putting them in proximity to more diversity, make people friendlier by making them get to know their neighbors better, and financially better off because they’re not forced to buy and maintain a vehicle to live a healthy life.
But fascists can’t put the boot on your neck as easily if you have more wiggle room with money or solidarity with the working class, so of course they’re afraid of it.
+1 to Undead Unluck, I can’t believe how good it got from where it started. Phenominal stuff.
There’s potentially a bot that can post weekly currently airing anime episode discussion threads, but it’d be good to know what shows people are watching this season. The rest of the community would drown if we posted a thread for every show that’s currently airing, so that’ll be a problem that needs solving. I’ll look into that bot in the meantime!

not even remotely a surprise to me, beyond I guess the fact that the taliban would have said anything at all about it
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA CHOBITS BABEYYYYYYYY
I fuckin LOVE chobits
It depends on what qualifies as “watched”. If you mean “what was the first anime you watched all the way through” it would be some 2012 anime like Code Geass or something. The first anime I ever remember watching seasonally was Parasyte: The Maxim, because a friend of mine told me I might like it but it turned out there was only 1 episode of it out. That’s definitely when the infection my passion for anime began. I started watching everything I could get my hands on seasonally then. Parasyte is still a 10/10 show by the way, and it 2000% holds up today.
I’m not sure if Guilty Crown fumbled the ending or if it just was garbage right from the outset, but I distinctly remember everyone hating its big tone shift with the MC going hyper edgelord mode.
This one’s a CLASSIC fumble. I really liked the show too so it was a shame. If they were given, say, 12 more episodes to work with they probably could have made it work.

How is that working out for you? I just use the glasses spacer on my HP Reverb G2 but I have considered in the past getting lens replacements if its a significant improvement in some way.
When Linux gaming reaches 100 percent parity with windows, I’ll probably switch. Until then I can’t really justify it for my home PC. Give it 5 years or so, I’ve heard good things about… proton, i think it was called?

Sweet Home rules and needs more rep!
Baby Steps is a really good Tennis manga, not sure if there was an anime adaption or if it was good or not. I’m a big fan of Yowamushi Pedal, which might be more well known for its in universe anime “Love Hime”'s fake OP.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is a great read, I ought to catch up. Eleceed, Weak Hero, and Lookism are all decent if its the sort of thing you like to read. You definitely can just pick one and read it and you’ll have an alright idea if you’ll enjoy the other two. I liked Legendary Moonlight Sculptor quite a bit but that does come with the asterisk that i’m isekai trash and love eating garbage if the garbage has stats that go up on it
Helck’s manga gets RIDONKULOUSLY good, but IDK if the anime will get to the good parts of it. Its kind of a bait and switch fantasy comedy > fantasy action/drama type deal.
JJK is a no brainer here, other than that i’m looking forward to more Mataraku Maou-Sama and Bungou Stray Dogs. I have no self control, so I’ll also be watching every single bad isekai this season. Helck is crazy good as a manga but IDK if the anime will go for long enough to get into the interesting parts of it, so i’ll chalk that down as a “maybe when i hear how other people like it 6 episodes in”.
this time around the bad isekai looks to be “jitsu wa ore, saikyou da”, “Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill”, “The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior” for which i went with the english title because its long as hell, and of course the vending machine anime where the guy gets reincarnated as a vending machine.
I just finished this season’s Rokudo no Onna-tachi, which was criminally slept on because its premise sounds like it could get squicky (it never does). I also watched uh, Yuusha ga Shinda, Mashle (great but not slept on), and also kamikatsu which I plan on never ever telling anyone in real life I watched.
I’m also watching Bleach for the first time in 2023. People baited me into thinking it’d be bad but the soul society arc slapped. We’ll see how the Arrancar arc holds up.
