How would you write magicians? Would you describe their tricks? Would you reveal the tricks? Please do link any literature with magicians as characters. Thank you :)
The magician would make a really cool and unbelievable trick as a bad guy in the first half of the story, and reveal them in the fourth quarter of the story. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scooby-Doo!_Abracadabra-Doo
Some examples:
- JKR - Harry Potter
- TA Barron - The Lost Years of Merlin
- P Pullman - the golden compass
You will find that all of those wizard characters are written in a different style. Some of them are gifted, with some it’s genetic and for others everyone in the world might be a magician.
If you meant magician by the definition of someone performing tricks, not actual spells, Arrested Development has a good magician character in Michael’s brother GOB. He’s funny as his magic tricks often fail.
I can’t really take magicians seriously. Maybe that’s how they should be written aswell.
These are my two favourite films with magicians:

I think the reason they are good is that both the audience on the films and the viewer watching the films are both surprised by what happens
