Yeah, that’s exactly what I think as well. China is the only major economy that’s actively transitioning off fossils right now.

Thankfully they make everything, so if they transition to green production and energy then they will basically force everyone else to be green by proxy. It boggles the mind how well they’ve played their cards in the past three decades.

Yeah, at some point everybody will be scrambling to get off fossils and China will be the only country that can actually produce clean energy tech at scale. China already accounts for vast majority of solar and nuclear tech. Shockingly, it turns out that planning for more than a couple of years in the future results in lots of advantages.

Parliamentary system plays a big role here by directly encouraging short term thinking. Since parties tend to stay in power for a handful of years, that becomes the political horizon for their projects. Nobody wants to start a project that another party might take credit for, and many times when new parties get in power they tend to change course. Couple that with a stock market driven economy where quarterly profits are the only consideration, and you have a solid system for ensuring that no long term planning happens.

Agreed, it was a bad idea for longevity. I wish for a communist super-AI that will live forever and stay in power so that we will have something that thinks beyond our lifespans. I would settle for a party, however.

Skyscraper for growing crops saves land space for beautiful, carbon regulating forests. This needs to be the future for most agriculture.

Yeah, I completely agree this is the way to go. Using indoor farming also means that food can be produced near population centers eliminating the need to ship it across the country. I do think that the fact that this approach is resilient to extreme weather is the most important aspect though. Both US and Canada had massive crop failures this year, and it’s entirely possible that kind of stuff could lead to famines. Producing food in a controlled environment is the safest approach going forward.

You can also use things like hydroponics to massively ramp up energy and nutrient efficiency compared to open field farming!

Also, you can use GMOs and fertilizers to their full potential with little worry that they’ll escape and affect natural ecosystems! This is huge as fertilizer runoff can decimate water ecosystems and invasive species are always a concern when the plants are not native.
