This is a really wonderful book, and one of the first marxist histories I’d read. Its informative, entertaining, does good materialist analysis, all while centering on the pure genius of L’Ouverture and his comrades in winning the only successful slave revolt in history… CLR james is a great writer.
Really? I haven’t read it, and wasn’t planning to. Just learnt that it exists, and thought I’d raise awareness that it exists. I guess it’s going on the bookshop list now.
Its long, but there might be an audiobook for it now.
