I don’t think that any government funds anything for ideological reasons. It’s always about influence and power.

Don’t get me wrong, I not saying that it’s good, I just answering the question.

Normal reaction is to not support someone when they do something you don’t like.

Sure - but that reaction will get you screwed in politics. You’ll never get anything you want because nobody will 100% do everything you want. And if you don’t support others then they won’t support you.

There seems to be a lot of young idealistic liberals on Lemmy who think they should just be getting their way on everything no compromise needed. You know - the “I’m not voting for Biden because he did X thing which Trump would certainly do worse” crowd.

I don’t think it would be too much to ask or too difficult a question to ask not to use US aid against civilians.

I’d like a secondary source on that which isn’t from a Tennessee Republican parroting an NGO that is well known as a pro-Israeli lobbying group.

Even if it’s true, they aren’t the ones who are committing genocide right now and we aren’t sending money to them either.

You’re getting your news from a republican senator’s news page…?

Oh my god, how dumb is that.

UNRWA has a stringent staff conduct framework in place to ensure that staff members do not affiliate
themselves, and by extension, UNRWA, with any other groups. All UNRWA staff, Palestine refugees, and
contractors, vendors, and non-state donors are screened against the Consolidated United Nations Security
        Council Sanctions List.

UNRWA does not, and will not, divert any humanitarian aid into the wrong hands. Donor support goes
directly to those in need. The Blackburn letter’s authors are seemingly unaware of the requirements of U.S.
law, or any of the provisions of the US-UNRWA Framework for Cooperation. UNRWA is required to take
all possible measures to ensure funding provided by the United States does not provide assistance to, or
otherwise support, terrorists or terrorist organizations.

This includes reporting requirements on any aid diversions

Last night, one of our fallen UNRWA colleagues included Mai, a person who overcame physical disabilities to
become a front-end developer at the UNRWA Information Technology Service Center. Since the horrific
events of 7-October, UNRWA has already lost Mai and 71 other members of its staff to the conflict. Despite
this, thousands of UNRWA staff, many of whom are now displaced themselves, are still on the job assisting
the 690,000 Gazans sheltering at our 149 facilities, as well as working at our healthcare centres.

But yea, tell me again why this makes it okay to kill children again?

Un Watch is a pro-Israeli group, not affiliated with the UN, and no longer doing a great job.

            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UN_Watch

I read parts of the report anyway and it seems that it’s basically a report where they stalk many teachers online and take their posts where they talk about Israeli oppression then say it meant they celebrated the attacks of October 7 /:

            Fuck that’s so goddamn flimsy.

As usual the label of antisemitism is used to silence Palestinians online. Israel wants them to both live in humiliation and keep their mouths shut too.

      • Do you ask yourself sometimes if you are being downvoted for your opinion or because the source you linked is garbage? The Gazans government is under the rule of Hamas. So of course UNRWA are talking to “Hamas” if you define Hamas as the party ruling Gaza with no elections. This inflation of Hamas and the Qassam Brigades is quite worrisome, not to mention misguided and meant to misguide others. In many other discussions, people mean Hamas as in the milotary branch of it, which is fine, but you don’t here. The “Hamas” members thtt UNWRA works with are doctors, civil servants, nurses, etc.

If you lived in Gaza and wanted to make a difference or work a government job, what options do you have? And does that make you a terrorist or militant? It’s like saying Israelis deserve to die because Bibi is a piece of shit and they work under his governmental rule.

Often I wonder if people reaf the crap they link to, but that link is basically saying “UNWRA does its best to not associate with miltaynt groups, sends lists to Israel to vet, yet they totally do support the terrorists, okay?? Evidence? The lack of evidence is the evidence!”

Like gtfo of here /: what sort of crap is that? 😬

Downpunxx will be here any minute to let us know that the Hamas was stockpiling weapons under the UN headquarters, using them as human shields, and the UN workers in that building were complicit and happy to let them do so.

I didn’t see in the article which terrorist faction was responsible.
Was it the IDF or Hamas? Anyway screw them both.
Genocidal maniacs have no place in society.
