2.14.5 Released!

Notice for Windows users: We are aware of an issue with the installer failing to download the dictionaries used for spellchecking. We are currently working on a fix and hope to have this resolved as soon as possible. Whoops we missed May, but hopefully you all enjoy this kind of rushed release! Why was it rushed? Well a certain unnamed broker of software vulnerabilities posted a bounty for vulnerabilities in Pidgin.

Who is the userbase of pidgin? I have always wondered that, the days of ICQ are long gone.

Pidgin is imho unique given the large amount of plugins (though some plugins are no longer maintained) https://www.pidgin.im/plugins/ Plugins for Mattermost and Rocketchat are nice to have for people with older computer hardware (Read: no more electron apps!). And there is a Matrix bridge :-)

Pidgin is widely used out there, it is considered one of the best instant message clients in linux. I think the problem is not X protocol or X client, but these days, increase the use of integrated chat within X platform than the use of stand alone clients.

Pidgin, the universal chat client

Pidgin is a chat program which lets you log into accounts on multiple chat networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on XMPP and sitting in an IRC channel at the same time. Pidgin runs on Windows, Linux, and other UNIX-like operating systems. Official site
