The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT; German for “Wave Gothic Meeting”) is an annual world festival for “dark” music and “dark culture” in Leipzig, Germany. 150+ bands and artists from various backgrounds (gothic rock, EBM, industrial, noise, darkwave, neo-folk, neo-classical and medieval music being examples) play at several venues throughout the city over four days on Whitsuntide. The festival also features multiple all-night dance club parties, several fairs with medieval, gothic, and related merchandise, a variety of cultural exhibitions and performances, large themed picnics, and a number of unofficial fringe events. -wikipedia
The “Victorian Picnic” on Friday afternoon in the park is an iconic event during WGT, especially for those who like to dress up in Victorian, steampunk, baroque or all kinds of neo/dark romantic styles. Hundreds of elegantly costumed people meet up in style for a dazzling picnic or stroll in the park! -leipzig.travel
Friends of mine try to go every year. They say they start planning at least a quarter of a year in advance, not only to find themselves beautiful among everyone else, but also to give others the feeling, when you look out over the crowd, that the surroundings will transport you to that fantasy time.
When I watch this, I realize I dress like a slob by comparison. But if you think about it, WGT is pretty much the Olympics of dressing up, right?
