    It’s fascinating to me how quickly China went from “one child only” to “we’ll pay you to have children”

      They do tend to make huge, self destructive decisions on policy, don’t they? I’m reminded of the famine mao caused by ordering all those sparrows killed, without understanding that the sparrows were keeping the harmful insects in check.

    I know of no country that has reversed a declining birth rate by any means but immigration.

    Since immigration to China is basically zero…

      Yeah, my understanding is that the US is chugging along and growing in part because they accept so many immigrants and people actually want to move to the US.

        As an American yeah ensuring immigration is safe, accessible, and desirable for laborers at the very tops and bottoms of skill/pay is a matter of national security. At the top we want the best in every field, especially stem. At the bottom we need people to do labor our citizens don’t want to do like harvesting crops. Whether or not it’s good is irrelevant, it’s national strategy
