Russian President Vladimir Putin controls about 42 percent of the world's nuclear fuel, and may be able to send electricity prices soaring if he withholds supplies.
The nuclear fuel US currently produces is already being used, so replacing lost nuclear fuel from Russia would require a significant ramp up in production. It’s not clear how easy that would be and whether US is willing to deplete its nuclear fuel reserves to send them to Europe.
