I’m a Chinese person living in Vancouver. I’m grateful that I never experienced any in-person racism last year (internet is a different story), though I did stay home for most of the year, and I’m also extremely ashamed at my city that this is happening.
I feel like Asian people are severely lacking in leadership and representation. The most prominent person I can think of that was given spotlight in the mainstream US discourse was Andrew Yang, and his solution to hate-crime against Asian people was asking them to be more American.
In canada I can only think of Jagmeet Singh in the NDP, which is of course another party of imperialist socdems.. I do remember him having a pro-indigenous video tho so he’s probably not too bad as a person.
Hmm… I wonder why this could be the case?
