In Cuba, abortion and all healthcare is free, and enshrined in a constitution democratically voted on by the people. In the US, nine unelected, life-long judges control society based on a 1787 constitution written by slaveowners.

    It’s not really a matter democratic vs undemocratic, there is no shortage of reactionaries among the general US population that are against abortion. It’s an issue regarding education and a culture that is backwards. That said though, having nine judges in the supreme court holding so much power and the president being able to pack the supreme court with their supporters does seem dubious for a country that champions itself as being democratic.

        It definitely plays a role.

        Personally I think it’s absurd to call the U.S. a democracy when the demos doesn’t have any political agency. But I don’t control the pop definitions. The US does.
