This is a cool little addon to help you tell, at a glance, if the repository you’re browsing on github has an open source license license.
Especially relevant nowadays given the trend to convert previously OS repos to non-OS licenses as a business model (eg Akka or Terraform.)
This is cool! Would you share the link? For me, clicking just leads to the image
Oops! My mistake 🤦 Updated the post.
Your extension is very useful. Just yesterday I was thinking if there was a list or database of projects that were open but then closed down. So this extension still helps in this area. Maybe it could be used to save thins kind of information somewhere public.
It would be nice if you could augment it to display the same information in the projects website.
a list or database of projects that were open but then closed down
That’s a great idea! Esp if the list is actively maintained & updated.
Since I am NOT the author of this extension, do you think you could write down your thoughts on the project’s issue tracker?
I am not sure this is inline with the project goals. I prefer discussing it before opening this kind of issues.
That’s a fair point 👍 I just wanted to point out that I’m not the author.
As I said, I very much like the idea. It helps raise awareness around the current trend of switching licenses to curb competition/make $$$.
Wait, MIT isn’t open source!?
Created an issue on the repo: https://github.com/galdor/github-license-observer/issues/5
It is: https://opensource.org/license/mit/
It’s most probably a bug in the addon. Best to report it on the repo’s issue tracker: https://github.com/galdor/github-license-observer/issues
