Liberal arts, along with being incredibly necessary for many parts of a functioning society like sociology (right?) and architecture, also grant us the vision to turn gray blobs of laboratories and actuarial super computers into a place worth sticking around for. If you walked around seeing nothing but people in gray uniforms, no make up, no hats, no murals on the walls, no statues, gray slabs on concrete erected everywhere, it would be bleaker. Music would be nothing but metronomes.

Daily reminder that most STEM scientists and engineers are cool and interesting and love art and shit, but the techbros and the people working for Raytheon and shit, those are the scourge of the earth. Anyways, all in all a pretty 12-years-oldish comment.
Like, every STEM dude I know has an interest in sociology or some kind of art or are leftists, or all of the above. Zero smugness.
But those are, by definition, aren’t STEMlords. STEMlords are those that assert the superiority of STEM above all else, so any interest in something other than engineering and money makes them regular people.
It might be generalizing, but those are some of the hardest binge drinkers I ever met in college.
Not always mean spirited, just heavy drinkers
Ah ok.
Again, all the “hard sciences” PhDs I have ever known are cool people.
You just spilled the beans by mentioning the PHDs… most STEMlord types arent willing to go through that much school.
